This home was one of the original Los Angeles "Spanish Revival" style homes of the 1930's built by the famed Hollywood actress and singer Deanna Durbin. The new owners saw the potential of bringing the home back to its original state after it was stripped of all of its charm in the 1970's. Photographs of the actress in almost every room of the home were miraculously found and used by restoration architect Martin Weil along with Triumph Construction, Inc. to help transform this home back to its original state.jeremytoubl

Bill Rosenberg, the owner of Triumph Construction, Inc., says "This house had lost its soul from earlier remodeling efforts. The owner compiled a team of professionals; architect, interior designer and a fantastic group of tradesmen who all worked their tails off to re-create a wonderful, classic home."

The restoration work included handmade wainscoting brought over from England, and installed by the English manufacturer and then adorned with beautiful fresco paintings. In the entry, groin vaulted ceilings were added and then faux painted. The living room ceiling had wood beams added and then the faux painter spent over a month hand painting the ceiling on her back. Classic tile from the 1920's was used along with detailed plaster work, beautiful iron work and hand forged railings and lighting fixtures. The existing wood flooring was hand scraped and refinished, plus new flooring was installed to match the existing Birds eye maple floor laid in a herringbone pattern. The swimming pool was drained and 1920 mosaic tile was installed throughout the entire pool plus the existing gazebo was refurbished to match the original feeling of the era. Bill mentioned "that the entire project was a real pleasure for us to work on and is a true work of art."jeremy toubl

After the completion of the project the owner of the home had this to say to Bill Rosenberg of Triumph Construction: "As you know the project was extensive, all of the money was spent in upgrading the materials and finishes of our home and we did not add one square foot of living space. I think that a job like ours in many ways is much more difficult than simply adding a second story or an addition. The type of materials and finishes that were added were unforgiving in the sense that the work you did had very little margin of error. What is most important for you to know is that Michele and I are extremely happy with the work that was done."jeremytoubl
